Hangzhou Asian Games Fun Run Maldives Promotes Sports and Cultural Exchange

On February 4th, the Hangzhou Asian Games Fun Run Maldives took place in Hulhumalé, showcasing the spirit of sportsmanship and fostering cultural exchange. Distinguished attendees included Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin, President of the Maldives Olympic Committee Mr. Mohamed Abdul Sattar, Maldivian Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef, Director of Media and Broadcast Department of OCA Mr. Zhou Jian, and Director of Co-host cities Department HAGOC Ms. Song Jianbo.

President Sattar expressed his hopes that the Fun Run event would serve as a platform for raising awareness about the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games, scheduled to take place from September 23rd to October 8th. He announced that Maldives would be sending over 200 athletes to the games and expressed optimism for their success.

Ambassador Wang Lixin conveyed her gratitude to the Maldivian organizers for hosting the fun run as a means to promote the Hangzhou Asian Games. She believed that the event would not only facilitate sports exchanges and cooperation between China, the Maldives, and other Asian countries but also present a remarkable spectacle to the world. She also extended her best wishes for the success of Maldivian athletes at the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou.

One remarkable aspect of the fun run was its commencement with the blowing of the sangu, a traditional conch shell. Historically, island chiefs used to gather islanders by blowing the sangu. This gesture symbolizes an invitation to explore the richness of culture and the excitement surrounding the Asian Games.

The Fun Run brought joy and hope to participants throughout Asia, strengthening the bonds of friendship between the people of China and the Maldives. With over 20 schools, 8 sports associations, Chinese expatriates residing in the Maldives, and diplomats from the Chinese Embassy in Maldives, the 3km Fun Run attracted hundreds of enthusiastic participants. At the conclusion of the event, participants were honored and recognized for their involvement.

The Hangzhou Asian Games Fun Run Maldives successfully achieved its objectives of promoting sportsmanship, cultural exchange, and excitement for the upcoming Asian Games. Through events like these, the bond between China and the Maldives continues to grow stronger, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation in the realm of sports and beyond.
