Maldives Receives Donations from China and UNDP

In an effort to fortify its healthcare systems and bolster its COVID-19 recovery capabilities, the Maldives Ministry of Health has gratefully accepted generous donations of essential equipment, resources, technology transfer, and trainings from China and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).


The collaboration aims to enhance critical care for respiratory and life-threatening illnesses in the country, ensuring the well-being of Maldivians.


Acknowledging the support, the Ministry of Health tweeted,


We are happy to receive donations of essential equipment, resources & transfer of technology and trainings from China and UNDP to strengthen our healthcare systems, enhance COVID19 recovery capabilities & provide critical care for respiratory and life-threatening illnesses in Maldives

The Ministry of Health received a substantial consignment of emergency lifesaving health supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE) from the Chinese Ambassador, H.E. Wang Lixin, on behalf of the People's Republic of China.

The donation was made under the UNDP-China project, which focuses on bolstering healthcare infrastructure in the Maldives.


These supplies will be distributed to frontline workers outside the capital city of Malé, with equipment being placed in 10 hospitals across the country.


This collaborative effort between the Maldives and China, supported by the UNDP, emphasizes the importance of equitable access to critical resources.

In addition to distributing medical supplies to healthcare institutions throughout the nation, the Ministry of Health, with the support of UNDP and China, will provide on-site training to healthcare professionals.


This initiative aims to ensure proper and safe usage of the donated equipment, optimizing its impact on patient care and health outcomes.

The donations and trainings mark a significant step forward in strengthening the Maldives' healthcare system.


With the ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to address respiratory and life-threatening illnesses, the assistance from China and UNDP will greatly benefit the country's healthcare sector.
