China Maldives Friendship Run 2022

China-Maldives Friendship Run Celebrates 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations

On December 24, a momentous event took place in the Maldives as the Chinese Embassy, in association with the Maldives China Trade and Cultural Organization (MCTCO), organized the China-Maldives Friendship Run. This special occasion marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the Maldives. With the participation of over 300 runners, bike-riders, and skaters, including notable figures such as Ambassador Wang Lixin and Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof, the event was a true celebration of the enduring friendship between the two nations.

The day began at 6:00 am, when Ambassador Wang Lixin, Minister Mahloof, and Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef gathered in front of an eye-catching electric backdrop adorned with the words "China-Maldives Friendship Run 2022" and the official logo of the 50th anniversary of China-Maldives Diplomatic Ties. The atmosphere was electric as the announcement was made, and the participants eagerly awaited the start of the run.

Minister Mahloof led the bike-riders, with the signal given by Ambassador Wang Lixin and Foreign Secretary Latheef. Following their departure, the VIPs, including Ambassador Wang Lixin and Foreign Secretary Latheef, led the runners, skaters, and special participants, all brimming with excitement, as they embarked on the run.

The course took the participants across the Sinamalé Bridge, a symbol of the joint construction efforts under the "Belt and Road" initiative between China and the Maldives. The bridge not only served as the main venue for the run but also played a pivotal role in the social and economic development of the Maldives. With over 100 million crossings, it has brought transformative changes to the lives of the Maldivian people and has become a tangible symbol of the close cooperation and profound friendship between China and the Maldives.

After crossing the starting line, Ambassador Wang Lixin, Minister Mahloof, Foreign Secretary Latheef, and other VIPs led the participants over the Sinamalé Bridge and completed the full run by making a U-turn back to the starting point. The runners and skaters embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination, making the event a resounding success.

Upon completing the run, Ambassador Wang Lixin, Minister Mahloof, and Foreign Secretary Latheef exchanged medals as a symbol of camaraderie and awarded medals to representatives from various organizations, including the Maldives National University, Bike Maldives, In-line Skate Association, Chinese companies, Chinese residents in the Maldives, and special participants. This gesture further strengthened the spirit of friendship and collaboration between the two nations.

The China-Maldives Friendship Run was not only a physical event but also an embodiment of the long-standing friendship between the people of China and the Maldives. The warm and friendly atmosphere, coupled with the smiles and enthusiasm of all the participants, showcased the deep-rooted bond between the two countries. It was an occasion that resonated with the spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect.

As the run came to a close, it left an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone involved. The event served as a reminder that the friendship between China and the Maldives will endure, just like the beautiful sound of the waves that grace the Indian Ocean. The China-Maldives Friendship Run was a testament to the lasting connection between the two nations and a symbol of the bright future that lies ahead for their bilateral relationship.
